Great Opportunity for Juniors and Teens from our programming department
Great Opportunity for Juniors and Teens from our programming department:
I wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity that we have developed. The Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center is willing to offer conflict resolution workshops to Girl Scout troops in the Fauquier and Prince William areas. This is a really great partnership and I have been working with Lawrie Parker at the center to create a workshop that completes the Increase the Peace badge. http://www.gscnc.org/files/pdf/patches/peace1.pdf So not only will girls be learning important conflict resolution and peace mediation skills, but they will be earning one of our Council patches as well! We have already started this workshop model in Charles County with another mediation center with some very good success and feedback.
The workshops work best for either Junior or Cadettes troops. It can be a great option for a troop meeting. The workshops tend to run about 2 hours. The Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center has graciously offered their services free of charge, but have requested that troops help cover the material costs. This would amount to $2-3 per girl. If any troops are interested, they should contact Lawrie Parker directly to set up a time to hold the workshop. Her information is:
Lawrie
PiedmontDisputeResolution.org
It would be great if you could send out this information to the troops in your area and see if any of them are interested in participating. Again, the best way that they would do that would be to contact Lawrie directly and set up a time when the Center’s staff can attend a troop meeting, or another designated time/place that works for both the troop and the Center. I would ask that either Lawrie or the troop report back to me once the workshop has concluded, so I can get feedback and track the number of girls served.
Thank you! Let me know if you have any questions!

Teens
Hello Teen Group Advisor,
I just received the following message from our camping department:
"We are looking for a volunteer or group of volunteers to organize host families for camp this summer. That is, get travel information from staff, assign staff to host families and organize things.
We are also looking for families who might be interested in picking up international staff member(s) from the airport/train on June 8/9/10 and taking them to Potomac Woods or May Flather on June 11. For May Flather, GSCNC will meet the host families in a more convenient location on June 11 because it’s so far."
If you know of a volunteer who would like to help spearhead this effort, or if you yourself are interested, please contact Jacque , Camping Specialist. Once we have the leadership for this effort confirmed, we will begin looking for host families, and will again be tapping our Teen Group resources.
Thank you!
Sara
